WHAT HAPPENING IN MUSIC?!?
Christmas is in the air for the K-3 students and we are hoping for a snow day while we prepare for our Christmas musical “The Big Chill”. All K-3 students have received lyrics for the music we will be singing and everyone should be practicing at home. In case you didn’t get the letter I sent home, you can easily look up the music with lyrics for your child to practice by simply going to Youtube and searching “The Big Chill Erin Hagood”. She has all of the songs with lyrics uploaded for easy access. Our performance will be on December 13th at 6:30 pm. The 3rd and 4th grade will be performing a separate performance after “The Big Chill” at 7:00 pm. Students need to be at the school by 6:00 pm
If you have a 4th grader, I know you’ve heard the sweet sounds of the recorder around your house for a little bit now. We started out learning some basic notes and we practiced rhythms for a while. Now we are working on our Recorder Karate! Students learn a note or two on each page and add to the knowledge they already have from the previous pages. I already have several students that have worked hard enough to receive their white belt and the yellow belt. If your child hasn’t received a yellow belt yet, encourage them to practice their music. If they are practicing it properly it should sound like a song, not like squeaky whistles. All 4th graders should be practicing for 20 minutes a week and this should be logged on their practice logs. If your child hasn’t been having you initial their practice log, ask them about it! 4th Grade will be performing on December 13th at 7:00 pm, but students need to be at the school by 6:00 pm.
5th grade is trucking along! We started out working on basic notes and rhythms using our rhythms pies. Now we are reading pitches and rhythms from the book and playing them together as a class. Everyone should be practicing for 40 minutes a week outside of school. Most of the students have turned in 2 practice logs so far, but I still have a few that haven’t turned any in. Please let me know if your child has been practicing so I can put in a grade for them! I passed out Christmas music to the 5th grade last week. This is for them to practice when they’ve gotten everything else done, or they get bored. We will work on this music in class, but not for a couple more weeks. 5th Grade will perform on December 17th at 6:30 pm.
6th grade is working on reading pitches and rhythms on the staff. We are making slow progress right now and I believe that is due to lack of practice. Everyone should be practicing for 40 minutes a week outside of school. I have received very few practice logs from my 6th-grade students. If your child hasn’t asked you to initial their practice log, please ask them about it. We are only as good as the person that practices the least! I’m hoping to have Christmas music out to the 6th grade this week! 6th Grade will perform on December 17th at 6:30 pm.
The marching band has been great this year. We’ve marched in a parade and even performed a little show at halftime of the last regular season home game. Everyone received Christmas concert music last week and we’ve been working on that. This week is the first week I’ll be checking practice logs for the Upper band. Please make sure your child has completed 1.5 hours of practice outside of school. (1 hour for 7/8, 1.5 for 9/10) Our Christmas Concert will be on December 17th at 6:30 pm. We are making great progress this year and I can’t wait to see what we can do in the future.
The choir has been working on Christmas music for some time now. We performed the National Anthem at the football homecoming game and despite our microphones being a little off, we sounded wonderful. Our Christmas Concert will be on December 17th at 6:30 pm. I have a very talented group for students and I’m really excited about the music we are doing for Christmas and I can’t wait to see what cool stuff we can do in the spring.
