FLEMING STAFF AUTOBIOGRAPHIES

Ashley Stewart

Ashley Steward

Hello! My name is Ashley Steward, and I’m excited to be back in Fleming, Colorado, where I grew up and graduated from in 2006. I’ve been married to my wonderful husband, Patrick, since 2008, and together we have two sons, Easton and Tristan. After spending several years as a stay-at-home mom, I completed my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Colorado Christian University, and I’m currently working toward a master’s degree at the University of Northern Colorado. I began my teaching career at Ayres Elementary in Sterling in 2022, and in 2024, I happily accepted a teaching position with Fleming Schools, where I teach a bit of everything. I look forward to making this my permanent teaching home and helping my students grow each day.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school at (970) 265-2022.

Kendra Koehler

Kendra Koehler

My name’s Kendra Koehler.  I was born in Sterling on September 4, 1974.  I’m the first born to Earl and Emma Koehler.  I have three sisters I grew up with and a sister I just met a couple years ago that was put up for adoption. I grew up on the farm my paternal great grandparents (my dad’s mother’s parents) acquired from the government via the Homestead Act in 1913.  I started Kindergarten in Fleming in 1980 and graduated from High School in Fleming in 1993.  I married my kids’ dad in 1996 and had Damon in 2003 and Jaime in 2004.  The kids and I moved back to Fleming in 2010.

I’ve had many jobs but started working at the school in 2018.

I like spending time with my kids. I sew, knit, read, quilt, play piano, and make jewelry.  I like to fish and go camping occasionally.  My family and I enjoy going to concerts, musicals, symphony orchestras, operas, plays, and comedy shows a few times a year if possible.  I’m working on a business degree in accounting.  My favorite place to go visit is the Black Hills especially now that Jaime’s going to college in Spearfish.  One of these days I’m going to get a passport and start traveling the world with my sister Stacey.

DENISE KING

Hello!  My name is Denise King.  I have lived in the Fleming/LeRoy community my entire life except for the four years I spent at college in Sterling, Kansas. It was there that I played basketball, got my teaching degree, and met my husband of 36 years, John King.  Together we have three wonderful children who are all married and three grandchildren who light up our lives.  I am currently in my 33 year of teaching.  I spent the first 15 years teaching at neighboring school Lone Star, and I have been a Wildcat again for the past 18 years.  When I’m not teaching, I love attending sporting events, golfing, reading, and spending as much time with family as I can.

ARIKA LIPPSTREW

Hi! My name is Arika Lippstrew and I LOVE teaching art! It brings me joy to watch students learn and create.

I was raised in the country of Fleming and attended Fleming school from preschool until graduation. While a student at Fleming, I participated in art, band, choir, FBLA, student counsil, volleyball, basketball and track. I was blessed with winning three state volleyball titles, one state track title, and two state runner-up titles. I got to participate in band and choir competitions, state FBLA, and art shows. Fleming is a great place to be!

I played volleyball at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling. I received my bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Colorado Christian University. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy going to church, hanging out with my two sons and husband, fishing, hiking, drinking coffee and being outside.

Tamra Ashburn

My story starts in the countryside of Peetz, Colorado. My childhood was filled with many memories; experiences ranging from hoop shoot competitions and learning to play the piano and the flute, to riding my father's airplane around Northeast Colorado!  In school, however, I needed to work hard to be a successful learner, and am forever grateful to my own teachers who strove to teach me at my own personal level of learning.   When I graduated from my senior class, I wasn't sure where life would take me but was excited to begin college at NJC in Sterling!  I then continued my Agribusiness Degree at the University of Wyoming.  Upon graduating, I married the love of my life and found myself settling in the finance industry, where I initially worked as a loan processor for a few years before being promoted to a loan underwriter.  During this time, I loved being with people and found it rewarding to build relationships with small town people who worked in the many jobs underneath Agriculture!  After I had two beautiful children, I found an interest in the great work found within the 4 walls of my children's preschool room!  Before long, I found a passion for helping kids (both my own, and others) learn!  While I knew I was making a great career change, I was excited about the opportunity to learn with BOCES to get an alternative teaching license in Haxtun, CO.  It was a year's journey to learn and experience within the classroom while taking classes learning the most effective teaching strategies and techniques.  Today I can honestly say the journey has been challenging at times but very rewarding to spend my days with little 1st graders.  They learn best when experiencing things with their own hands, eyes, and ears.  I love to bring real life into the classroom and give them opportunities to learn about real life things while learning the foundations of reading and math!
