Mr. Derek Feather

Welcome to another year at Fleming Schools!!!  I am Derek Feather.  My wife, Dallas, and I have 4 beautiful children, a son-in-law, and a new grandson (Apr 23): Ashleigh (Brandon Koehler), Greyson Koehler, Kaitlyn, Braylen, and Emma.

I grew up in Sterling, CO and graduated from Sterling High School in 1989.  I attended Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, CO and then transferred to the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, CO.  I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Mathematics in 1993.  I spent one year as a substitute teacher in Greeley and Sterling.  In 1994, I accepted a 7th grade teaching position with Sterling Middle School.  I taught 7th grade mathematics for four years and then taught 8th grade mathematics for another four years.  While at SMS, I also coached middle school football and high school golf, basketball, and baseball.  In 2002, I accepted a teaching position at Sterling High School.  I taught at SHS for 13 years, teaching Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2, as well as concurrent enrollment courses in college algebra and statistics.  While at SHS, I continued to coach basketball and baseball.  I was the head baseball coach at SHS in 2002 and 2005-2009.  In 2008 I earned my Master of Science Degree in Education with an emphasis in Educational Leadership from Walden University.  In 2015, I accepted the high school mathematics position here at Fleming High School.  While at Fleming, I have served as the junior high boys' basketball coach for four seasons (2017-2021), the high school baseball assistant for two seasons (2017-18), the high school boys' basketball coach for three seasons (2020-2023), and the Class of 2027 class sponsor for 3 years 2020-2023).

My interests include watching my children with their activities and just being outdoors.  I became interested in hiking a few years ago and have hiked two 14ers [Mt. Sherman (2019) and Quandary Peak (2020)] and the Manitou Incline (2021)!!
